Shin-Go-Do is not just a martial system but also a way of life based on the teachings of the Japanese, Chinese, Okinawan and American martial arts. This way is about making a better life for us through the training of our bodies, minds and developing our spirits to a much higher level. Shin-Go-Do is not just about the martial training but how the individual and the training coexist to develop our whole person that functions at a much higher level of performance and awareness. This component and the totality of all will lead us to develop our minds, which in turn will allow us to further develop our spirit and grow toward the ultimate truth.

Our style of martial art started back in 1978 when I started my martial arts training. The style I started with was Shao-Lin Ryu Karate, I was taught by Sifu John Fernandez. Sifu Fernandez instilled in us a higher standard of not just training but a higher standard for our life. These principles still hold true today.

In 1980 I started a journey of training in a number of different styles such as Tae Kwon Do, Moo Duk Kwan, Tang Soo Do and others. Never did I find a style that held my interest for a very long, at that time they all lacked a realistic approach to self-defense. It seemed to me that they all stopped short of being a complete self-defense art. This is a hard concept to understand for most people. But in my view a martial art style should have a physical component, mental and spiritual component. In 1994 my martial arts training changed to a more realistic and modern way of training and thinking. This started with Shidoshi Carey Malmstrom. The style he teaches is Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. This style opened my eyes to the direction I needed to follow.

In September 2005 after many years of advanced weapons and self-defense training Mr. Stringer founded Shin-Go Do. SGD is dedicated to the traditional ways with a modern out look at today’s environment in which we live in. We have adopted these modern concepts and training techniques and blended them together with the traditional ways of those who came before us in order to teach a more rounded and modern form of Martial Art.

Shin-Go-Do is a way that deals with self-defense in an open format. It is a living art and will always continue to grow and expand so we can. The style is based on simple time proven basics. We then take those basics and apply them to our selves. Shin-Go-Do evolves into our individual personalities. This way is about the individual not the style itself.

So now your journey begins, all those who have come before you now wish you good luck and enjoy the rest of your life.
